Avdeborgård Workplace Environment

Kenneth Øster, owner of Avdebogård, had been planning the construction of a new finishing barn with approximately 6,000 pens for several years. Construction of the barn took place from the summer of 2022 through February 2023.

Focus on workplace safety and animal welfare

When selecting solutions, Avdebogård placed a strong emphasis on a positive work environment and animal welfare in response to future demands on pig production. Recognizing that future demands on Danish pig production are rapidly moving toward increased animal welfare and good working conditions for employees, the choice of an automatic bedding system was a desired solution that had to be included from the start. Bopil was selected as the partner for this project.

In addition to the straw bedding system, solutions such as natural ventilation, partial floor extraction, slurry cooling, air purification, and automatic slurry discharge have been selected.

Open Barn Event

The grand opening of the livestock facility at Avdebogård took place during a well-attended open house event on February 10, 2023.

Christian Fink, Sector Director at L&F Gris, gave a speech during the open barn event, in which he stated, among other things: "The system for distributing chopped straw uses big bales, which are shredded and then blown under the roofing of the individual pens three times a day. - This saves labor and ensures that the pigs always have fresh straw. - Just a few years ago, we didn’t think it was possible to distribute straw via an app on your phone, but today it is.”
