Smart Counting - Operations Manager

Clear documentation of piglet weaning

Smart Counting is Denmark’s first pig counting software based on artificial intelligence. We have installed the first system at Kim Kjær Knudsen’s farm in Ringsted.

The Operations Manager's Objectives

Brian Lehmann, operations manager at Allindemaglegård, has high hopes for the system. “Every Monday morning, we ship out about 1,250 piglets from this farm, and we very often encounter discrepancies in the count. We’re typically talking about 30 piglets.” Smart Counting’s biggest advantage is that it facilitates a smooth transaction between seller and buyer by eliminating counting errors and providing video documentation of the count. Brian Lehmann is looking forward to having clear documentation of the piglet count in the future.

“Artificial intelligence”

Software based on artificial intelligence offers many advantages. Once Smart Counting is set up in the drive aisle, the system begins a so-called “training process.” Since conditions for moving animals vary, Smart Counting adapts to the specific environment of the herd in question. These may include lighting, the width and height of the passageway, the size and color of the pigs, and more. The system thus takes all applicable conditions into account and provides a precise overview of how many pigs you are sending through. At Kim Kjær Knudsen’s farm, the training process is in full swing and is expected to be completed within the next few weeks.
