In 2024, Inger Marie Secher purchased Overtofte and, together with operations manager Ib Jensen, decided to build a new gestation barn for 1,000 sows and gilts.
Construction of the barn began in November 2025 and will be completed in April.
The gestation barn was selected with the ESF system to enable body condition scoring, and with the addition of OmniFeed Pro, this process has been automated. In addition, SpotStrø, a fully automatic bedding system, was chosen for the barn; in addition to the gestation barn, it will also supply bedding to the current and future farrowing barns. Finally, the farm has focused on creating optimal well-being for the sows through natural ventilation, time- and temperature-controlled overhead sprinklers, and breeze fans.
The farm has focused not only on complying with all current requirements, but also on preparing for future demands for improved animal welfare.
The barn will be operational starting in May 2026.
