New finishing pig barn at Grantoftegård

A full focus on automated solutions

Grantoftegård near Haslev on Zealand has just completed construction of and begun operating a new finishing pig barn. The expansion of the existing finishing pig facility was driven by a desire to automate both feeding and bedding distribution.

A switch from the simple chain system to SpotMix

SpotMix provides ad libitum feeding around the clock in a weight-sorting system.

The decision to choose SpotMix was based on two factors. Grantoftegård was primarily interested in an automated solution that would save them time and reduce manual tasks. Additionally, Grantoftegård chose SpotMix because feeding can be controlled via the same IT platform as SpotStrø, which was actually the solution they were initially looking for. Furthermore, Grantoftegård was interested in a solution that could make optimal use of the weight sorting system.

SpotMix enables Grantoftegård to implement a phase-feeding program using multiple mixtures based on weight. The pigs are fed ad libitum in long troughs, where the finishing pigs are fed soaked feed, ensuring optimal feed intake.

Automatic feeding

In the four largest pens of the finishing pig barn, Grantoftegård has chosen SpotStrø with a bale shredder to create a fully automated system that eliminates the manual and time-consuming task of bedding the pens multiple times a day. By being able to spread bedding precisely at any time, the advantage is that the pigs can be easily monitored as they stand up when the bedding system dispenses fresh straw.

SpotStrø offers the key advantage that, before the straw is distributed, dust is removed via the patented vacuum system. This ensures a better indoor environment for both pigs and staff. The distribution of bedding is time-based and occurs at the "path level."

All systems are integrated through the same IT interface, allowing users to easily navigate between ESF, SpotMix, SpotStrø, and MamaDos.
