Comprehensive Solution at Langemyregård

Modern solutions focused on animal welfare

Following a devastating fire in March 2020, Langemyregård has rebuilt its feed barn, gestation barn, and farrowing barn to accommodate nearly 700 sows

A transition from traditional farrowing crates to BeFree farrowing pens with free-range sows

A total of 216 BeFree farrowing pens have been set up in the three sections of the newly built farrowing barn. The farrowing pens measure 280 x 240 cm.

"We have chosen BeFree for two reasons. First and foremost, we are thrilled that with BeFree we have the ability to handle most tasks from the hallway, which saves us time. In addition, the protective barrier helps protect my employees from potentially aggressive sows. Finally, safety barriers for free-range sows help ensure we meet future legal requirements," says Thorbjørn Kofoed, Langemyregård.

In the farrowing pen, lactating sows are fed via MamaDos, which allows for multiple feedings throughout the day. MamaDos dispenses small, precise amounts of feed, encouraging the lactating sow to stand for longer periods. This increases the sow’s physical activity, resulting in a healthier udder and increased colostrum production. SpotStrø system automatically distributes bedding, which benefits both the sow and the piglets.

MamaDos is supplied by a chain conveyor system per section. By filling buffer silos, SpotMix ensures section-by-section feeding, thereby enabling phase feeding in the farrowing barn.

Focus on technical solutions to achieve greater efficiency

In the gestation barn, the older ESF 6 stations have been replaced with new ESF 8 stations. SpotStrø ensures that both the gestation barn and the gilts’ barn are bedded down three times a day, providing rooting and enrichment material for the sows and gilts to enjoy. Bedding is essential for keeping sows and gilts occupied and helping them feel full.

SpotStrø is combined with a bale shredder a fully automatic system that requires only the insertion of a large bale, mini-bale, or round bale. The distribution of bedding is time-based and can therefore be adjusted at the "path level."

All systems are integrated through the same IT interface, allowing users to easily navigate between ESF, SpotMix, SpotStrø, and MamaDos.
